Let's Write!

IF YOU'RE NEW TO THIS SECTION of the site, you'll need to surf around awhile to get a sense of what's available. Once you're familiar with the writing strategies overall, you can use the QUICK TRICK TABLE to get to any strategy directly.

For maximum effectiveness, USE the strategies to develop a writing project you are working on, for example, a COMM 212 assignment. As with any acquired skill, proficiency comes with PRACTICE.

These strategies are a selection of the most popular ones experienced writers rely on to get the job done. Feel free to adapt them in whatever way works for you. And remember, you can use any of them at any point in the process as needed. You'll also find links to exciting websites, and to relevant pages in your COMM 212 text book. If you have some other favourite strategies that work especially well, or if you discover a useful website not included here, please email them to me and I'll add them to the site. I'll also share tips along the way to help make the whole process more efficient.

If you find it difficult to force yourself to work on your own, try organizing a classmate or two into a writing group. Group support helps a lot if you're unused to this kind of proactive approach to writing.
